Through innovative research and new teaching and learning formats, BTU actively shapes the future – contributing academic insight and practical solutions to major challenges and transformation processes. The university consolidates its strengths across faculties and institutes in four key profile areas: “Energy Transition and Decarbonisation”, “Health and Life Sciences”, “Global Change and Transformation Processes”, and “Artificial Intelligence and Sensor Technology”.

Ihr Aufgabengebiet umfasst insbesondere:

This junior professorship is located at the Institute of Health (IfG) at the Senftenberg campus of BTU Cottbus–Senftenberg. The IfG (https://www.b-tu.de/institut-gesundheit) was established in 2016 in response to the region’s structural transformation and aims to assume a leading role in health science research and in the establishment of academic education in the health professions. In addition to the Bachelor’s degree programme in Midwifery Science (B.Sc.), the IfG offers Bachelor’s programmes in Nursing Science (B.Sc.), Therapy Sciences (B.Sc.) and a Master’s programme in Vocational Education for Health Professions (M.A.). In the future, an additional consecutive Master’s programme with a research profile is planned.

The overall objective of the IfG is to qualify graduates of discipline-specific Bachelor’s programmes for roles in healthcare provision, and graduates of interdisciplinary Master’s programmes for roles in education within the health professions or for research positions in the health sector.

We are seeking:

An academically distinguished candidate with national and international visibility and experience in the field of midwifery science, demonstrated through relevant publications in peer-reviewed journals.

The junior professorship is expected to represent this field in research and teaching within the Bachelor’s programme in Midwifery Science and in other study programmes at BTU. Teaching duties will be carried out in both Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes and in German and English. Where German language proficiency is not yet sufficient, a commitment to acquire the language promptly is required to ensure effective participation in institute and faculty administration, as well as in university and non-university committees, and to deliver Bachelor-level teaching in German.

We expect an openness to engage with the faculty’s research priorities, a willingness to collaborate across disciplines, a commitment to advancing the professionalisation of the health professions (especially midwifery), to contribute to the further development of the IfG, and to actively participate in academic self-governance.

Ihr Anforderungsprofil:

Pursuant to Section 47 (1) of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (BbgHG), applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • A completed university degree in Midwifery Science, Midwifery, or a comparable degree programme
  • Proven teaching aptitude
  • Outstanding ability for academic work, generally demonstrated through the exceptional quality of the doctoral dissertation

In addition, you must hold the professional license to practise as a midwife and possess relevant experience in midwifery science and/or midwifery practice.

You are also expected to have experience in securing third-party funding and in managing externally funded research projects; experience with DFG or EU-funded projects is particularly welcome.

Your teaching experience should qualify you to deliver excellent instruction in the subject area, across all levels from undergraduate to doctoral studies. You must be capable of supervising theses and supporting early-career researchers, while also contributing to academic self-governance and the strategic development of the faculty.

Was wir bieten!

  • Transparent and fair appointment negotiations
  • Attractive working conditions in a city with a high quality of life and close proximity to Berlin, Dresden, and Leipzig
  • A dynamically developing research environment
  • Support with relocation to the region
  • Comprehensive assistance through our Dual Career Service and Family Support services
  • A competitive salary with a negotiable performance-related component

Additional responsibilities arise from Section 44 in conjunction with Section 3 of the Brandenburg Higher Education Act (BbgHG).

Appointment requirements and conditions are based on Sections 47 and 48 of the BbgHG.

Pursuant to Section 47 (2) BbgHG, periods of full-time academic employment between the date of the doctoral examination and the application for a junior professorship must not exceed six years. These periods may be extended in accordance with legally recognised periods of reduced working hours for childcare or care of dependents.

Pursuant to Section 48 BbgHG, junior professors are appointed as civil servants for a fixed term of up to four years. Following a positive interim evaluation, the appointment may be extended to a maximum of six years. After successful performance during the six-year junior professorship, the tenure-track procedure provides the possibility of transferring the position holder to a W2 professorship following a formal appointment procedure
